*A bit about the markings & symbols on her face and around her head.
*On her forehead: Ulla's version of the bear’s nest, referring to the womb of the primordial Bear Mother in her protective and regenerative aspect.
*The 7 dots above the nest: the Bear’s cosmic connection to the universe via the Big Dipper (Ursa Major) constellation. In a Finnish legend, the Ancestor Bear was born up in the stars, lowered to earth on silver straps.
*Top: the Witch’s classic cast iron cauldron, for brewing her herbal tinctures & ointments. Maybe some porridge too.
*Left cheek: the mark for Air, which Ulla takes to mean ‘atmosphere’, both literal and symbolic, to keep a house productive and stable. She could probably raise a storm too if needed.
*Right cheek: Arrow, which Ulla sees as a sign of her skill to pinpoint the heart of a matter or problem (aka her b.s. detector).
*Left ‘flap’: the Tree, meaning her connection to the World Tree, and to the secrets and gifts of the natural world.
*Right ‘flap’: the Butterfly or Bee, symbols of transformation, spiritual as well as material, so opposites of stagnation and atrophy.
