Cactus Gallery LA

A WITCH WITH A POINTY HAT by artist Francesca Loi

$ 850.00

The artist decided to mix things up with this doll as she often likes to do. The costume is inspired by the 17th century; the legs are shaped like a typical China Doll from around the middle of the 19th century.

The long pointy hat takes its shape from the capirote (capuchón), which goes back to the Holy Inquisition (1478-1834).

Sinners had to wear a cone hat and walk through the streets as a form of public humiliation. Today it is used in Spain and Hispanic countries by members of a confraternity of penitents.

Mixed media OOAK art doll: air dry clay, organdie, block print fabric, wool locks, cotton fabric, vintage French lace and fabric, and wire.

The head, hands, and feet are sculpted in air dry clay, then hand painted with acrylics, soft pastels, and pencil (sealed with a matte varnish).

She has 2 metal rings on her back for displaying on a wall. Completely hand sewn.

The artist’s paper clay stamp logo is hand stitched onto the doll.
Certificate of Authenticity included.

Frame in photos NOT included.
