BRIDAL MASK by artist Lauren Hana Chai

$ 500.00
Oil on canvas, 16” x 20”

This mask was used back in old Korea along with many other masked characters for use in plays for peasants, rituals etc. The mask allowed peasants to anonymously express their true feelings about being under the rich. The mask allowed them to mouth off to their superiors without any consequence.

The bottom background is an abstract representation of a crowd of North Korean people. The masked bride symbolizes the emotions and words that the North Korean's cannot express to their superiors because of tyrannical rule.
