Sand cats live in both sandy and stony deserts. They are specifically found in Africa's Saharan desert, which stretches through Algeria, Niger and Morocco; throughout the Arabian peninsula, and in parts of central Asia including Turkmenistan, Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The prickly pear cactus is a resilient plant that has been used for centuries as a food source, wound care, and even as natural fencing that keeps in livestock and marks the boundaries of private lands. Cactus is tough and often grows back following removal.
