BLUMENHOLDE (Lady of the Meadow) by artist Alexandra Lukaschewitz
Crepe paper, wire & glass beads, 6" tall (15 cm), in a 8" x 4" (20 x 10 cm) glass dome
"Blumenholde" is the Lady of the Meadow. In the story she only has a short mention as the illustrious wife of Mr. Wiesawittl who is the ruler of the meadow so I liked to see her come to life...
As a kid I grew up in the Bavarian Alps and besides the forest, wild growing meadows always had a special fascination for me. With all their little inhabitants to watch and sometimes also catch.
'Wiesawittl & Blumenholde' is part of Franz Xaver von Schönwerth's collection of Bavarian folktales.
The Munich artist Alexandra Lukaschewitz creates sculptures and pictures from paper. Her anthropomorphic creatures quote pop culture as well as natural history. She has a fondness for the curious, the wonderful, the fragile.
Antique book stores, old-fashioned museums and flea markets are where she finds inspiration and materials for her artworks.
Alexandra is the co-founder and curator of Dog & Pony - a personal Wunderkammer and pop-up gallery space in Munich.
