FLOR DE MAGUEY by artist Milka Lolo

$ 360.00

Mixed media on paper, 10” x 8”, framed to 13” x 11”

This piece is a tribute to the Goddess Mayahuel, who defied her grandmother The Darkness, and escaped with her lover, Quetzalcoatl, to give Humanity the gift of her magic plant that would grant happiness to the hearts of man. To hide their love from the powerful Darkness, Mayahuel and Quetzalcoatl turned themselves into a plant with two branches, but they could not trick the old lady, as she identified which branch that was her granddaughter and she broke it into pieces. To honor the memory of his love, Quetzalcoatl buried her bones in that same spot and from them grew the Maguey (Agave cactus) from whose heart comes the sweet liquid, that when fermented, becomes the Pulque that brings happiness to men.
