A SALEM WITCH by artist Francesca Loi

$ 450.00

Mixed media OOAK art doll: air dry clay, vintage fabric and lace, sari silk ribbon, organdie, linen, wire. The body (not posable) is made of needle felted white Corriedale top over a wire armature to give it the right shape, and wrapped her in a sari silk ribbon. Head, hands and feet are sculpted in air dry clay. I crocheted a very thin wire for her chains.

Her wig is made of unbleached natural fiber. Her bonnet and collar are embroidered, and coffee stained. She is painted with soft pastels and acrylics, and sealed with a matte varnish. She has a metal ring on the back to display her on the wall. Bonnet and apron are removable. Completely hand sewn.

Height: 16.5" (42 cm)

She was inspired by the Salem Witch Trials, a series of hearings and prosecutions of people accused of witchcraft in colonial Massachusetts between February 1692 and May 1693. More than two hundred people were accused. Thirty were found guilty, nineteen of whom were executed by hanging.
