There are many ways to interpret the Mother Goose rhyme 'Hey Diddle Diddle'. Some say it refers to the British court of Elizabeth I, some say it refers to constellations and mythical beings. Others will insist it's simply a lovely poem to read to children. As a child, I loved it because 'diddle' was a funnyword and the notion of cows jumping over moons, dishes running away with spoons, cats with fiddles, and little dogs that laughed appealed to me. ~ Janet Olenik, Artist
