Höyheneukko (Feather Hag) was the mother of all game birds according to Finnish folklore. It was her job to watch over flocks of game birds and bestow good luck upon hunters who honored the rules of the forest. Small gifts to her were placed into tree hollows in order to ensure a favorable hunt. She had many nicknames, such as 'Holohonka' (Hollow Pine), 'Koppa' (Hollow Object), Parviämmä (Flock Hag), Satasarjan kasvattaja (Guardian of a Flock of Hundreds), Tuhatpyrstön tuuittaja (The One Who Lulls a Thousand Feathered Tails to Sleep). ~ Ulla Anobile, Artist
