In Greek mythology, the Oceanids were three thousand goddess-nymphs who presided over the sources of Earth's fresh-water - from rain-clouds to subterranean springs and fountains. The Oceanids were the daughters of Oceanus, the Titan god of the earth encircling river, and his wife, the Tethys.
