Itza and Hue Hue ~ Dreams at Play, 2026

Solo show by New Mexico based artist Pamela Enríquez-Courts
Opens online April 25, 2026
Welcome to the world of Itza (eet-zah) and her pup pupil, Hue Hue (wey-wey).
Itza is a teacher and trainer of the Xoloitzcuintle (shoh-loh-eets-kweent-lee) dogs, and it is her job to show them how to become leaders and thinkers so that they can successfully fulfill their promise of becoming trustworthy guides for those souls passing through the afterworld of Mictlan (meek-tlan).
In these paintings Pamela has crafted in pictures, the story of Itza teaching HueHue about the heritage of his land that is filled with beautiful and terrifying tales of angry and benevolent Gods of this Earth and beyond.
Itza must teach HueHue about the stories that may sometimes seem confusing or frightening and teach him to understand and not be afraid of things that may be new or beings that may be different from him.
These paintings will soon become part of Pamela's first book!
