All seven of the world's sea turtles are listed as endangered or vulnerable. 

As with so many other marine animals, the effects of pollution, plastics and fishing have taken a heavy toll on sea turtle populations.

Under natural conditions, only about one in 1,000 baby sea turtles survives to adulthood. Thankfully, in the United States, measures have been taken to help sea turtle populations by protecting beaches during the nesting season. Researchers and volunteers monitor the beaches and help to ensure these hatchlings make it to the water.
