THE WING WEAVER by artist Hazel Newton

$ 380.00

Mixed media: Textiles, polymer clay, lampworked glass, shell, wire, beads, acrylic paint, whiskers, 3x3x2.5”

The Wing Weaver can be displayed in or out of its shell. The feathers and claws are very gently posable, allowing the creature to grasp hold of twigs and perch when out of its shell.

While it is believed they are still capable of flight, these shy and secretive creatures can occasionally be spied creeping around searching for old nests. They like to use abandoned snail shells to hide in, long term occupancy causing the shell to take on the iridescent colours of its owner. The Wing Weaver will interlace its feathers over the shell, to aid its passage among the tangled leaves and stems in its search for a nest.

Only very, very rarely in spring, it has been said the Wing Weaver will spread its wings and fly up to perch amongst the blossoms, listening to the birdsong while being gently swayed in the morning sunshine, the petals falling around like soft rain.
