MOON BOAT OVER THE SEA by artist Ulla Anobile
Paper mâché, acrylics, 8 1/4" x 6 1/2"
The Moon has always been associated with cyclicity, the feminine principle, and fertility, both in mythology and folk tales.
As the ruler of the tides, the moon is also associated with water in its various forms, from oceans to the principle of moisture. The 'drops of moonlight' in my piece refer to this connection, and the straight lines mark the moon's effect on tides and other cyclical events.
Likewise, the Moon Rabbit or Hare is a well known creature in folk tales, perhaps because it too is linked to the idea of fertility, and also because the shadows of the moon are said to resemble the form of a rabbit.
The connection between the distant moon and the waters of our planet remind us of the interconnectedness that reaches beyond the here and now, to the larger forces of the universe.
