GIRL WITH A MIRROR, SKELETON by artist Francesca Loi
Mixed media OOAK art doll: air dry clay, cotton and vintage fabrics, sari silk ribbon, gold leaf and wire. The body (not posable) is made of white, needle-felted Corriedale Top, over a wire armature (to give her the right shape), wrapped in a printed cotton fabric and a vintage hand embroidered silk fabric on one leg. Head, hands, and feet are sculpted in air dry clay.
Her hair and arms are made of a manipulated sari silk ribbon. She holds a mirror made of air dry clay and a non-glass craft mirror, removable. She is painted with chalks and acrylics. Gold leaves cover her neck, hands, feet and the back of the mirror, all sealed with a matte varnish. Completely hand sewn.
DOLL: around 34 cm/13.5 inches tall
MIRROR: around 7x5 cm/3x2 inches
This doll is part of a pair: a human and her skeleton “reflection” counterpart. Shown in the last image with her partner. Sold separately.
What do I see in my own reflections? What do others see in theirs?
When in front of a mirror the current self – what I am now – is standing between two
mirrored versions of the same: what I was, and what I will be.
“Those flowers are fading under the weight of the inevitable.”
“My love for the present is a golden thread that stains my limbs.”
