EL OSO #66 (The Bear) by artist Ulla Anobile
Hand stitched wool/rayon felt, wide, 5 1/2" x 4"
Via Ulla: This is my Northern European interpretation; these symbols are often used to denote the bear, a sacred animal, even considered an ancestor, in Finnish pre-Christian folklore.
The figure on top is my interpretation of the bear's nest. Below is the paw, found in many ancient objects as well as jewelry. The seven stars refer to the constellation Ursa Major, considered to be his birthplace in many origins poems.
