28 LA SANDIA (The Watermelon) by artist Chris Rodríguez
$ 250.00
Mixed media, 12 3/4 x 15 3/4"
This piece was made to bring attention to the continued genocide in Gaza. Containing the colors of their flag, the watermelon was used as a symbol of the Palestinian people when Israel suppressed the use of their flag.
The Keffiyeh originally a headdress of the farmers and lower class has become a symbol of strength and unity. Tatreez is the name of the embroidery by Palestinian women.
The irregular quilt blocks symbolize the utter destruction of the cities of Gaza. The lone child represents and killing and starvation of over 58,000 people by both Hamas and Israel, with more than half being women and children.
100% of this sale will go to Middle East Children’s Alliance (MECA), a nonprofit organization working for the rights and the well-being of children in the Middle East. MECA welcomes the support of all people who care about children and their future.
Also shown here is the original Don Clemente Gallo Loteria card for LA SANDIA.
