23 LA LUNA (The Moon) / Baila, Diosa Luna by artist Tania Pomales

$ 700.00
Acrylic and enamel on wood panel, 8 x10", plus frame
2024

About the piece:  This piece is a tribute to the Taino roots of my Puerto Rican culture. Diosa Luna is the name given to the moon goddess by the Tainos. The half circle portion of the painting is my reinterpretation of the Taino symbol for Diosa Luna. The flower petals are from the Flamboyan tree, a tree synonymous with the life, culture, and landscape of the island. The leaves are banana plant leaves in remembrance of the trees I used to see from my grandma's porch in PR years ago. I pictured her dancing under the moonlight, connected to the earth.

Also attached is a picture of Diosa Luna from the Taino Museum website.

Also shown here is the original Don Clemente Gallo Loteria card for LA LUNA.

Riddle associated with this image: El farol de los enamorados. (The Lantern of Lovers)
