K is for Kettle by artist Joan Charles
Acrylic on canvas, 8 x 8"
This October, Cactus Gallery transforms into a haunted primer with "Halloween Fundamentals," an exhibit where twenty-six eerie works each bring a letter of the alphabet to life. Playful, spooky, and full of delight, artists have spelled out their own Halloween stories, one shadowy letter at a time. My piece, “K is for Kettle”, features a magical tea kettle that brews up an eerie surprise.

Joan once heard her art described as “sweetly sinister”. It is true that she has always been drawn to the mysterious. After all, even the sunniest days have a little darkness - the deepest shadows are cast at high noon. That dichotomy is reflected in her work, along with the desire to convey emotion and to capture that elusive moment when something momentous is about to happen.
Joan draws and paints in her studio in Santa Monica, California.
