Cactus Gallery LA

THE CACTUS FRIEND | MAKING NEW FRIENDS DURING LOCKDOWN by artist Alexandra Lukaschewitz

$ 520.00
Japanese paper, vintage manga, wire & glass eyes and glass beads
5.5'' tall in a 8" tall glass dome

It was the second lockdown when they met in the supermarket. The cat shopping for essentials, the cactus sitting on a shelf next to the till waiting for someone to take him home. The cat never wanted a cactus, considered them as boring. The cactus was afraid of cats, thought they had a bad reputation. They got talking while the cat was waiting in line next to the cactus’ shelf.  The cactus found the cat to be kind and sensitive. The cat thought the cactus was witty and charming. The cat took the cactus home. They are friends ever since.

About the artist:  Munich based artist Alexandra Lukaschewitz creates sculptures and pictures from paper. Her anthropomorphic creatures quote pop culture as well as natural history. She has a fondness for the curious, the wonderful, the fragile.

Antique book stores, old-fashioned museums and flea markets are where she finds inspiration and materials for her artworks.

Alexandra is the co-founder and curator of Dog & Pony - a personal Wunderkammer and pop-up gallery space in Munich.
