This piece is made from a remnant – book cover cut out – along with vintage thread in hand sewn design, wall paper sample and vintage frame.

As we get older, our bodies change. Once reaching adulthood, society constantly tells us that we need to be youthful, to use products to hide our age, get surgery to hide our many well earned years and become something we are not.

To me, there is beauty in every gray hair, every wrinkle, every scar and in older (old) age itself. For it is within us where the true beauty radiates from and can grown substantially when we recognize the outer self is merely a vessel to protect the extraordinary soft self within.

The sewn in leaves are a reflection of that. They are green and lush when young and as they age, their color changes to oranges, reds, yellows and browns yet are still beautiful. I want to be like the leaves and find beauty in every year of my life.
