BLACK STORK by artist Rasa Jadzeviciene
Mixed media,16.5” tall
About the piece: I was born in Lithuania, a small country with deep cultural roots. It is believed that more than 600 years ago, the Lithuanians were pagans who believed in the miracles of nature. They understood nature very well and even had idols and goddesses. Pagans had a lot of rituals to worship nature.
One of the many deities was the black stork. People believed the storks brought peace, happiness, fertility, birth and even rebirth. My doll symbolizes the goddess-stork, surrounded by nature outside and with the secret in her heart.
I admire Lithuanian folklore and during the creative process, I tried to imbue in the stork with that energy. I believe she brings happiness and peace to the home.
