Cactus Gallery LA

YOU AND I by artist Carolina Seth

$ 350.00

Oil on cradled panel, framed to 7.4” x 7.4”

About the piece:
The show is an exploration of the impact of human culture on animals. Using anthropomorphism (where the attribution of human characteristics or behavior is given to an animal) as a strategy to support the continued concern for the environment and human impact on nature, specifically animals.

Learning about the theme of the exhibition, it immediately came to my mind Dolly the sheep, born in July 1996, she was the first mammal cloned from an adult somatic cell using the process of nuclear transfer.

In 2016, four identical clones of Dolly were alive and healthy at nine years old. Cloning may have uses in preserving endangered species and may become a viable tool for reviving extinct species.

In 2016, Scientific American concluded that the main legacy of Dolly the sheep has not been cloning of animals but in advances into stem cell research. After Dolly, researchers realized that ordinary cells could be reprogrammed to induced pluripotent stem cells which can be grown into any tissue.

Scientific advances can be both amazing and scary, like Mary Shelley's Frankenstein or a sci-fi movie.

This is my little tribute to sweet Dolly, the one who started it all 🙂
