Greek Pagan Folktales: Λάμια/ Lámia (Volos, Thessaly) by artist Anima ex Manus Art Dolls

Mixed media: wire armature, paperclay, polymer clay, vintage and found fabrics and trims, merino wool. Her little cottage is handmade by me out of soft wood. Her arms are poseable and her eyes are glass. Her body is soft and poseable, as it has wire running through it. She is painted with soft pastels, acrylics and watercolors, and sealed with matte varnish. She has a loop on her back, to display on the wall.

Lamia is a tall, beautiful, but blood-curdling woman with a slender body that’s half human half snake. She has a small golden comb and likes to sit by the water.

Lamia’s old cottage was said to be located in Dimini, a small village close to Volos, Greece. People were afraid of Lamia, and they were very careful not to provoke or frustrate her, as she would strangle any human, grown up or child, and eat them, or she would devour on people’s animals.
