Blue Fin Tuna #1 by artist Huggable Koi (Bonnie Robinson Stewart)
Cotton Quilting Fabric, Raw Cotton stuffing, 36" x 8" x 18"
This is a handmade, one of a kind art plush. It is the 1st edition in Huggable Koi’s series of Tuna. This Bluefin Tuna was created a tribute to this critically endangered species.
The Atlantic bluefin is a highly sought-after delicacy for sushi and sashimi in Asia—a single fish has sold for over $1.75 million! Driven by such high prices, fishermen use even more refined techniques to catch tuna. And the fish are disappearing as a result. Although tuna do provide food and livelihoods for people, they are more than just seafood. Tuna are a top predator in the marine food chain, maintaining a balance in the ocean environment.
Besides their commercial value as food, the great size, speed, and power they display as apex predators has attracted the admiration of fishermen, writers, and scientists.
Illegal fishing of Atlantic bluefin is a big problem and the fishery has been plagued by lack of enforcement and control.
Every Huggable Koi art plush has a secret. All contain a small talisman that gives each a unique personality and soul. The soul can be a toy, fossil, photograph or anything small enough to fit inside the plush. Only the new owner of the plush will be told the secret and they can decide if they want to keep that secret or share it.
