Cactus Gallery LA
IF OUR LOVE COULD SAVE THEM by artist Michelle Waters
Acrylic on wood, 9” x 12”
About the piece: I’ve grown to love dolphins through living near Monterey Bay in California, which is a hotspot of marine biodiversity.
Dolphins are highly social and intelligent, and scientists now recognize that they are very emotional animals as well. Dolphins use echolocation to find fish and communicate with each other, and they are unable to use this primary sense when captive in concrete pools, like at SeaWorld.
For centuries there have been stories of dolphins’ altruism, including numerous instances of them saving humans, including recent incidents where dolphins have saved humans from shark attacks.
Dolphins are imperiled by the captivity industry, including swimming with dolphins programs.
Michelle will be donating part of the proceeds from art sales to Sea Shepherd and Turtle Island Restoration Network.
