EL VALIENTE II (The Brave One) #12 by artist Sabrina Zarco
Hand embroidery on a vintage fabric, 9” x 12”
Background: I was in Playas looking at second-hand furniture at an all kinds of unusual stuff store, you know the kind of place, and serving as a cover for the furniture was the top of a vintage quilt pieced together using flour sack fabric. I assume it was a woman's self-expression done in a time when that was the only acceptable way a woman could express herself. So I now own this unknown collaborators work and I used a piece of that to create this embroidery work. It is a powerful work telling the story of rebel women then and now.
